This is true B.S....... I grew up around Lake Michigan and never ever witnessed an ice berg of any size. So, when I was fishing in the middle of Lake Michigan and never ever seen these I must have been on drugs! No wait, the person who posted this is laughing on how gullable (sp?) you all are thinking this is from Lake Michigan and not the Artic or Anartic. Give me a few more beers and I would agree it's from Lake Michigan too!

I GREW UP AROUND LAKE MICHIGAN AND NEVER EVER WITNESSED ANY ICE BERG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i AM FROM MANISTEE, MICHIGAN. THINK ABOUT IT,IF YOU HAVE AN ICE BERG THAT IS 30 FEET HIGH THAT MEANS THAT THE ICE BERG HAS TO BE AT LEAST 5 TO 10 TIMES BIGGER UNDER THE WATER AND IT WOULD NEVER REALLY MELT, EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THERE WAS NEVER EVER A SINKING OR SIGHTING OF AN ICE BERG IN LAKE MICHIGAN IN THE MIDDLE OF LAKE MICHIGAN WHEN IT'S 85 DEGREES OUT! IS IS GLOBAL WARMING OR AN ICE AGE? HMMMMMMMM!!!!

As many have already responded, they aren't from Lake Michigan, but they aren't from the Arctic either. They are from the other end of the Earth -- Antarctica. The first pictures were taken by Norwegian Oyvind Tangen on a research vessel near Antarctica, and the "frozen wave" pictures were taken by astrophysicist Tony Travouillon also in Antarctica, but they are not frozen waves. They are formed by glacial movement. It is impossible for a large mass of water to freeze solid quickly enough to freeze a wave -- too much heat would have to be extracted too quickly, and water just can't conduct heat away quickly enough. But thank you for the desire to share beautiful pictures anyway. Nature certainly is awesome!

I have seen these many times on Lake Michigan. It's a combination of super cold, global warming, algae, sediment and scotch.
